How to make an international call

To call a number outside the United States and Canada, dial:

011 + country code + phone number

Example: to call a number in Mexico (country code 52), dial 011 52 followed by the number.

Calls to Canada and most of the Caribbean don't need 011. Dial them like a U.S. number: 1 + area code + number.

International calling is off unless you ask for it

To protect you from fraud and surprise charges, PMX turns off international calling on new extensions. If you need it, ask PMX to turn it on for your extension.

My international call didn't go through

If you hear an error or the call won't connect:

  1. Check that you dialed 011 and the correct country code.
  2. Try once more.
  3. If it still doesn't work, contact PMX with the number you called (or at least the country), your extension, and the approximate time you tried.

PMX can tell you whether international calling is on for your extension.
