How to transfer a call

There are two ways to transfer a call. Pick the one that fits the situation.

Blind transfer Talk-first transfer
What happens The caller goes straight to the other person's phone. You talk to the other person first, then connect the caller.
When to use it The other person is expecting the call, or anyone who answers can help. You want to make sure someone is there, or explain who's calling.
Example "I'll send you to Billing now." "Maria, I have Mr. Lopez about his invoice. Can you take it?"

Talk-first transfers are also called attended or assisted transfers.

On a desk phone

The buttons are a little different on each phone model. On most PMX desk phones:

  1. Press Transfer.
  2. Dial the extension or phone number.
  3. For a blind transfer, press Transfer again right away.
  4. For a talk-first transfer, wait for them to answer, tell them who's calling, then press Transfer again. If they can't take it, let them hang up and press the flashing line key to go back to your caller.

See the GRP2615 quick guide for step-by-step instructions on that phone.

In CloudieConnect or SNAPmobile

During the call, tap Transfer, enter the extension or number, and choose whether to transfer now or talk first. The exact labels depend on your app version.

Send a caller straight to someone's voicemail

This is handy for receptionists: the caller goes directly to a coworker's voicemail without ringing their phone.

  1. Press Transfer.
  2. Dial 7 followed by the extension. For example, to reach extension 101's voicemail, dial 7101.
  3. Press Transfer again.

Note

This uses the PMX standard code. If it doesn't work for your office, ask PMX.
